I think I found tee solution.
Simply said: Voiceover says that the track is selected but it seems it was not.
I selected another track. Unselect it again and select the original track.
Hitting delete then worked as aspected.

It becomes a bit confusing for me.

When I make a selection in one of the tracks of this session and delete it it

1. Make sure you have track and edit selections linked as well as the edit and
timeline linked. this is under the Options menu. It sounds like you
