Doug Fridsma of the ONC was at the HL7 meetings last week. I suspect
that if HL7 works on this, then the ONC will follow. And if efforts by
HL7 and W3C to move this forward in the healthcare community are
successful, that would enable ONC to show support. From what I have
seen, the ONC tends
Agree with David - that HCLS has done a good job in raising awareness in the
W3C community - with informal participation from HL7 regulars. However, I
think we need some sort of a deeper collaboration - to achieve impact.
Another body to involve is ONC - which is likely to be influential - Not

Have you considered operating this as a W3C Community Group (easy
Hi Peter,
Thanks for your comments. Yes, work like yours is definitely part of
the motivation behind this! And for sure, the intent is *not* to create
new models in RDF, but the opposite: to expose *existing* models as RDF,
so that RDF can act as a common semantic substrate across whatever
Hi Michel,
Thanks for your comments. There definitely will need to be more
specific deliverables identified at some point. I guess I'm thinking of
it initially as an umbrella under which various specific milestones and
deliverables will be identified and pursued as the group prioritizes its

We are in fact doing just that at Kaiser on a small experimental scale. We
are working with Oxford and RDFox and creating an HL7 "RIM Like model". It
is not the full RIM but is Entities in Roles Participating in Acts.
I think it would be a mistake to try to put the whole RIM into RDF. Also

One suggestion would be to organize this around some concrete use cases – as we
have done in the past around the COI Task Force.
Some examples which come to mind would be:
- Clinical Decision Support at the point of care
- Clinical Analytics and Risk Stratification
- Leveragi
David,
I'm excited about the prospect, but I think the work group may be a bit
too broad without further refinement. I'd like to see a charter articulated
with a more specific focus, and identifying milestones that deliver
concrete outcomes (specifications, implementations, reports) around

Interesting thought. I don't know. What do others think?

I was at the HL7 meetings last week, and the idea arose of proposing an

initiative to draft a possible charter. I meant to send it out earlier
in case folks would like to discuss the idea on our 11:00am Eastern HCLS
