To expand on this, we're starting integration now with pulp3 and file repositories.  I don't have a good estimation for how long it will take, but my goal is ~2 months (so more likely 3 or 4 months).   This should give us a good estimation for how difficult it will be add future content types

I agree. I think a year though is highly unlikely. It’s kind of hard to predict right now because we don’t have a concrete roadmap for what needs to be done for Pulp 3 GA. Once we release the RC (or perhaps before), we’ll develop a milestone/roadmap for GA which should give us a better idea of how
