The exhaust does have a silencer, a powerflow one. I think it's a bit freer
flowing than intended though - I suspect the rst engine was a bit much for
it to cope with.
While it was fairly quiet when fitted, it got progressively louder

would cause any problems.
It might affect the turbo

Actually, you can have a too free flowing exhaust for a turbo.
The turbo needs a certain amount of back pressure on the exhaust to make the
oil seals in the turbo

Couple more pics on the photobucket site, showing my newly-modified
inlet manifold.
I'm quite pleased with how that particular bit turned out. Although
I'm a little worried that the additional volume of the pipes leading
around the engine to the intercooler will lead to an increase in turbo
lag.

1/2bsp is too big, that's the nub of the problem.
I need something like 3/8bsp to 1/2bsp converter which incorporates a
90deg bend, has a 13mm / 1/2 bore throughout and terminates in a pipe

I've managed to get a spare oil pump and filter housing, and cut it to
remove the filter mount leaving just 2 oil passages.
There are indeed 2 oilways - obviously inout. Easy enough.
Size-wise it should definitely fit now, even with the 2 pipes coming
out of the end.
One of the oilways is

I've been to the scrapyard, and managed to pull a filter assembly

Russell's oil filter setup is quite a bit different, much more
compact. It doesn't seem to have the oil-water cooler either.
Has it been modified? Looks like a short U-shaped transfer pipe has
been welded in to the plate next to the oil filter.

My gearbox might be a tad high, I couldn't remember whether there was

Might be worth trying one anyway.

That's all been ground away now, and fibreglassed over.
