As a technology, WiFi is very dependent on signal strength, hence
antenna placement can be a big factor. The antennas for the Boom and
the Radio are embedded in their respective products.
The inexpensive and easy fix if it works - physically move, or
re-orient, your Radio, wireless access point
I don't mean to pile on, but my Radio reception is about the same as OP.
In the same room as the router (802.11g/WEP 128) it works fine. If I
move it a few rooms over, it won't connect. In the same spot my
wireless laptop has no problem. I am running the current firmware.

The wireless chip is a different one than previously. However, you
should not be seeing this. The Radio normally has pretty good range and
is comparable to Boom.
Can you confirm your firmware version? It's possible to see these
issues with factory installed firmware, and you shouldn't see them wi
