For someone with the right development skills, there is no problem at

Hopefully Logitech will open it up to third parties so we don'

Once again, I don't understand the logicals behind all this.
I can understand they want to simplify the user experience
I can also understand the rebranding from Squeezebox to UE
But having exactly the same piece of hardware, having a cut-down LMS
that is not compatible with Squeezebox is so st

It depends, officially it doesn't work.
Unofficially, if you run it from source code from the 10.0 branch and
start it with the slimserver.pl instead of ueml.pl, it seems to work at
least partly to play music from it both using a Squeezebo
Then there's probably no reason to encourage continued discussion in
these forums about a product that isn't a Squeezebox and doesn't use
Squeezebox Server.

No, it does not work with LMS. However, you can install the new UE Music
Library (really a cut-down LMS) side by side with LMS and it works fine,
no conflict.
Thinking about it, I wonder if Logitech wanted greater reliability as
well as simpler config? I find LMS fairly robust but now and again i
