I used to measure like that (along the AXIS of the extension, not the top),
but then I got a NIB Pearl. There is a picture on the box showing measuring
from the center of the handlebar clamp to the center of the quill, on a line
perpendicular to the quill, not along the extension. Doing so
If you're looking at the perpendicular measurement (the base of a 17 degree
right triangle) versus along the center of the extension (the hypotenuse of
the triangle), the difference is 1/cos(17) which is 1.046 times the
perpendicular measurement. For the 12 cm stem this works out to 5.5
I think it's very possible that RBW doesn't quote extensions as measured by
Nitto, and it's possible that Nitto doesn't measure all its stems the same
way. I think the former explanation is more likely.

I don't know. I have much more than 1-2mm of threads engaged as
pictured. I'm perfectly fine with the state of the assembly I've
got. It's tight and it's not going anywhere. The nut or the bolt
would have to explode for anything to fail, and even then, my front
brake would only be

need anything. I've had people ask me too. It's not all cyclists, or
maybe even Rivendell people, but there's a certain type that stop and

know of at least a couple BOBs who have shortened that and used a normal
recessed allen nut to mount the rack. Since those come in several lengths,
it should be no problem getting the canti hanger and rack tightened down.

are a number of folks that can do it. I ended up finding something non-
custom that works and that I am happy with. I will be posting pics
