We have been happy with a Raleigh Scout 24 MTB for my 8 year old. We went
to this because my son was riding a 20 wheel singlespeed/coaster brake and
was getting tired after 8 miles or so of hilly riding, as you would
imagine. The biggest improvement was the gears for him because of the
I would not discount the better cruiser-type bikes. I bought my
daughter a top-end Electra Townie model (3-i) with 24 wheels for her
ninth birthday and it is surprisingly decent: light for such a bike

cage mounts. I upgraded

That's a sweet looking Road Standard. But a 59cm is way too big for an 82
cm PBH. For 82, you're talking about a frame in the 53-55 cm range.

I don't have much trouble with flats anyway, but RBW Nifty-Swifty tires are
a heavier duty version of the Maxy Fasty and pretty durable against
puncture. I think the Maxy Fasty is fine too. Today's ride included lot's

That's a really nice frame too. I wonder about the accuracy of the seller's
description. A 57 cm top tube on a 54 frame doesn't compute to me. But I
could be wrong.
I have a PBH similar to the original poster's and a 57 top tube would be
way too long for me.

My poster arrived on Friday. What a treat it was to open the box, unfurl

On Tuesday,
Those Gatorskins come in 650c (23-571), not 650b (which would be 23-584 if
it existed).
If you have 650b wheels, there aren't many tires as narrow as 32 mm, and
none narrower that I know of. The 33 mm Nifty Swifty is basically a Jack
Brown Blue in 650b size, and that's probably the only
The Grand Bois Hetres have been the most flat resistant tires I've ever used.

My '95 Road Standard is a 56 measured center to top (about 54 center to

lugs nearly touch and there's no room for a pump peg, so I'd say 54 center
to top. My head tube is 14 cm, but the one in the listing lacks the

DLG likes to show the posters on his site, and I don't know if it's there
