Frankly, I think that's uglier than the VO adapter / VO stem combo. I used
the VO setup on my old Riv Road and found it to be very convenient and
adjustable, and actually lighter than a traditional Nitto stem.

I tried installing the axa frame lock on my 59 clementine too, but it defeated
my efforts.
I may go back to it and try again since some have had luck.

perhaps it’s slightly wider at that point than a 52cm. Something to “file away”

Leaning toward the Atlantis, but Hunq curious, too. I'm 6' tall, mostly

I was going to try some basic p-clamps I had in my pile of miscellaneous
hardware. Just happened to notice these rubberized clamps at our local
hardware store. It worked out perfectly.
Are you using the longest middle slots? I agree with Mark that it's kind of a
bugger to install - you gotta get both bolts started first, then slowly
alternate screwing them in - but I had it mounted on my 52cm Clem L without
filing. Maybe your bike is bigger and the stays are wider at the mount

I agree, rando-style bikes look best with a slammed seat post. I never
thought the seat post looked odd on this bike, but you're right, it doesn't
look as good as the Quickbeam, which my much-taller-than-me wife rode.
As for the amount of exposed stem..

I thought of the bell, too, but really I think the quill adapter looks good
enough for a tryout. I've used mine on several builds with a variety of
threadless stems I have lying around, then bought a proper quill stem once I'd
dialed in the fit.

FWIW, I like the look of the VO adapter, the radius makes for a nice
transition. As for hiding the narrow stem, I would recommend mounting a

What you need besides the quill adapter with a distinct lip(unlike the VO
adapter with a curve) , a 1-1/8" OD , 22.2mm ID sleeve. I got about 4
inches of this from a bike shop years ago. Then you can add your shiny

I'm building up a 65cm Atlantis and my trusty Zefal hpx #4 is a couple of
cm short under the top tupe where the pump peg is. Does anyone know of a

I am exploring moving on from my Sam, but I want to give a drop bar setup the
ol’ college try before I do. I like the Salsa Cowbell 2 bar, but it’s only
available in 31.8 clamp diameter, and I don’t want to pay the $80 premium for
the VO quill stem with removable face plate to match it.

I do totally agree with the idea that the skill of the wheel builder is the
most important predictor of wheel strength and reliability. I have and
have had wheels built by Peter White as well as some highly recommended
local-to-Denver wheel builders and you can just tell... a really well built
I had an AXA lock on my Hunq which rubbed Schwalbe Big Ben 50-622 tires
just when compressed and riding. It was just enough that I didn't notice
but caused a sidewall blowout on a loaded tour. I switched the lock to an
Abus frame lock and have plenty of clearance.
