Good point. Which brings up the whole notion of weight limits. My guess is,
the Susie is stouter than a vast majority of production bicycles out there.
How many of them come with weight limits?

Right now the problem is Will's update on the max weight was only in a
weekly email, it's not on the product page at rivbike.com. If I hadn't seen
that email I wouldn't have picked up a used one here a month ago. They need
to fix the page.

The ad says that the price has been reduced, but I thought the seller
wanted $2600 for the Heron like a month ago.

Today there was mention of the Platys in the email newsletter from Will. No

Yes, but when communicating with the seller, he basically wasn't interested
in shipping a bike and did say more than once that he was hoping to sell
them both to the same buyer. I hope somebody gets it.

Some clarification about the Heron ... it is not one of the originals, but
is one of the 2nd Gen Tullio's batch. The fork crown is not the original
round-blade Heron crown, and the tubing may or may not be Reynolds 531,
which may or may not matter to you.

Leslie - the good news is that after you mentioned the bottle mounts I went

As a former Saluki owner I feel conflicted about weighing in here. That said,
My $.02 - The bikes are aesthetically top notch. They have so many well
considered details. Functionally, the earlier model with canti-lever brake
posts is a must have. That model allows for slightly bigger tires
The only difference I found is that, since the mixte doesn't have a
traditional down tube, it didn't have a down tube braze-on for a water
bottle cage. How it rides depends on other design characteristics. Also,
there's no top tube, so no pressing your thighs against the top tube when

The Bleriot is mine if anyone's interested. I go back and forth about

Awhile back, I worked for a bike shop that had these as rentals. They were
a nice ride but equipped with pretty low-end components and made with a
hi-tensile steel frame. At the time, I wasn't aware of Rivendell or Grant
Petersen's design philosophy. I didn't pay much attention to them.
That's a heckuva deal. Worth that for the wheels and tires alone!(nearly)
Is that the standard boscomoose angle or the ultra rare nonstandard
version? Great bicycle.

There is no cure for mixte-itis. The only way to be rid of it for sure is to
ask your Appaloosa to scoot over and allow a Platy to move into your garage.

I'm glad I already have a Saluki, and I ride a larger size. I would not
want that temptation of such a clean bike/build.
For anyone thinking of getting a Saluki, I would not say this about many
