Don't give mineral oil a bad rap... it's not for low end brakes... Shimano,
Tektro and a few others do use mineral oil, which is less corrosive than
DOT and it happens to work extremely well. Unless you're downhill racing
(where DOT will hold up better under extreme heat), mineral oil
Panaracer Paselas... I like em and think they feel wider and plusher than their
27 x 1 1/4 size suggests.

Hydraulic discs ARE indeed a game-changer for mountain biking. Lots of
advantages to discs and really very few limitations. Locating your brakes at
the center of the wheel may be technically less efficient than a brake pad on a
rim, but it isolates your brakes away from any ground hazards and

Bomba for 2 years and now ride a 60cm SimpleOne, both which feel perfect to
me. So I (naturally) ordered a 59cm Clementine. If a 56 was offered, I
might consider it. But I am certain a 52 would not fit me, and confident
I would recommend giving the chickens their own kiddie trailer with the
seats removed... especially if they are free-range chickens... :)

I just laced up a 2-speed Bendix fixed gear Franken-hub for my friend John's
QuickBeam. I'll try to get him to post here... It's an old 2-speed
cable-shifted hub with the coaster brake removed and custom-welded to disable

Until recently I still had Plasti-Dip on an old set of shifters (for 20+
years) depends on how well the surface is prepped, but I'd say it wears

Silly question; why not a front hub dyno? (Admittedly I'm amassing too

FWIW I've set up my S1 with a 20/22 rear, 42/44 front... Thinking back trying
to remember what was I thinking... I reckon I didn't want to run short of
dropout, but now reading this thread makes me second guess... Could have
widened the range by at least a tooth or two.
