I rodw with Bill for a short stretch. The wind on the way to Marshall was
like a wall. Here are some pictures from the ride:

For the most part my sandbagging turned out to be accurate. My wife and
kids had a fancy-ish dinner trip planned last night and I had made a
mostly-binding promise to reach the finish before dark. So, when I got to
Point Reyes Station I decided to skip the out and back leg to the Marshall

worse but I was not riding.
Congrats to everyone who rode. Looking forward to doing one of the rides later
in the year.

Fairly windy? A little rough?
Understatements of the year perhaps? (it's early in 2013) :)
The rollers to the Marshall store didn't end up being rollers as we had to
pedal to keep moving on the flat sections. No momentum was carried at all
from the downhills. I was crawling in my granny on 4% g
The ankle is still not ready for the distance although I considered attempting
the populaire. But did make the drive out to the Marshall Store to chat people
up. Fairly windy today so the run up Highway 1 to Marshall looked to be a
little rough.
Spotted a few Rivs on the trip. A nice Atlantis

Dude, do the populaire. It's only $5 and that mileage is easy if you eat a
lot and take breaks every 2 hours or so. That will be my strategy as I have
essentially been totally sedentary since the awesome Mt. Diablo New Year's
Day Ride.

Was hoping to do either the 200K or the Populaire, but the base mileage was
well and truly lacking. Not sure I'll have the gumption to root everyone
on at 7 am, but rumor has it of a low-key RR Grade ramble, wherein there
may be trail guidance to certain visitors of the area who we do not want

I'm roadtripping up w/ Esteban and two other SoCalians, but won't be riding
the brevet. Too physically shot to put that many hours in. I do hope to say
hi and ride the first leg with folks as I'm heading up to Mill Valley and

Manny,
To clarify, PBP only happens every four years. The most recent one was in
2011 so we all have a bit of time till the next one to decide if and what
bike to ride. In my opinion, the route and scenery are not the main
reasons to go do PBP. It is riding with thousands of other randonneur
You got it Will. I'll be there, I'm hoping the there will be a break in the
weather and sun will poke out. But doesn't look like it. My motivation is
taking shots of people riding back from the light house.

You guys are all textbook sandbaggers! It's not even Friday and all I see
are claims of unfitness. This totally reminds me of the start line at the
races. :)

Was considering it but didn't want to take the day off work, plus January
mileage has been down. Looking to do the Two Rock 200k on Feb 17th, which
is a Sunday one. My Salsa just got a bit rando-ified: I added a Mark's
Rack and Sackville TrunkSack, so it's well prepared.

Wow, you guys are off to an early start. OR Randonneur's 200k isn't until
03/30. Have fun and be sure to take pictures and post them here. I've done
that ride multiple times, although not as a brevet, and while it's
beautiful, the wind can make it really difficult.
