existing data? I have backups of the /etc/ directory, but they are old and
for some reason only the directories got backed up, no lilo.conf.

yep i tried this but it says packages not found - krb5-libs 1.2.7-10 and
openssl 0.9.7a-2
the thing is i have the NEWER versions of these that already come with RH9,
which seems weird that it wants the older ones to install its own RH9
c-compiler
is there a way round this?

If the staroffice desktop appears behind the splash screen then there is
probably a dialog behind the splash screen asking if you want to restore
a file. You can grab the title bar at the top (again, this works only if
it's visible) and drag it down to where you can see the dialog box.

does not recognize your changes.
When you modify your firewall rules save it using ipchains-save or iptables-save,

I just installed 7.3 as a simple samba file server for backing
up an NT server on a nightly basis.
It is behind a firewall and it will only be a file server.
It may do email and web serving in the future.
I do login via ssh now and then to check on things.

I created a backup script that copies our NT Server data drive to our
Redhat box running samba. All works fine except my root email account
gets a 1.2 MB email sent to it every night. This will hog disk space.

of MySQL, and attempted to connect with everything from ODBC, MyCC as well

I am running RH8, and have realised that my /usr partition is much too
large, and my /var partition is much too small.
Is there any way to resize these partitions without effecting the
installation at all. I can not afford to reinstall.

I have a printer setup on an older redhat box as an smb share. I can
map the printer from windows and print to it fine from windows. I also
have a 7.3 redhat box that I would like to print to the printer from. I
use the printer configuration tool to add a smb printer and then print a
test page b
We have a Apache Web Server with RedHat 7.3.
When I monitor the services of apache, using top, I noticed that my
process reaches 298 during high load but, the sleeping processes are
between 290 to 295.
My question is this, how can I remove those sleeping processes?

I just got my hands on a Promise Ultra 66 IDE controller card. I have two
drives in my system and am trying (but having trouble) to move both from the
onboard IDE to the Promise card.

I think you're missing the server information in your script. If it's on
the same machine as the mysql server then localhost would probably work
fine.
ie
my ($dsn) = "DBI:mysql:databasename:localhost";
my ($username) = "username";
my ($pass) = "password";
