Ok this is it. Listen Carefully!
1) You will need to make a symbollic link from jre 1.1.6 to
/usr/local/jre
2) After install you will have to change your jre link to jre
1.1.7
3) Don't worry. The installer uses a little bit older version
than the database creator.
You don't need to recompile. I didn't. I am running 8i with the
patches and it works great!

The reason for this is that you have SCSI-emulation on. This is just a
product of this. Don't worry about it!

You can get it from www.oracle.com and fumble throught their site or
just go to ftp.oracle.com/pub/www/otn/linux/815ship.tgz
I would recomend getting a free acount for oracle which is done on their
www site so that you can get the new patches for the shipped 8i.

Eric,
I am trying to speed performace and rid my kernel of all the
excess carbage. Usually I will make most parts modular that I only use
once in a while. On the other hand I prefer buiding options like raid and
my scsi card directly into my kernel. Just preference I guess.

/boot is raid 1 and / is raid 0. Everything works great but I recompiled

That is my 2 cents,
I just recompiled again but without the initrd, but said yes to all block
raid choices as well as for my scsi adapter(2940). I just don't know!
