I've trying to install RH 5.2 on an old 486DX2 as a way of troubleshooting
an upgrade of my Samba server from 5.2 to RH7.
The installation seems to go OK, but the machine won't boot Lilo. All I get
is the dreaded L and a string of endlessly repeating 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
But, I can boot fro

Lately on my RH 5.2 system, I've been getting a bunch of messages like the

Speaking as an aerospace engineer, I'd say he wasn't especially bright.
I'd rather fly on an airplane with one reliable engine, than one
Samba can only be used to allow a second computer (NOT the one running
Linux) running Windows to access the specified partitions - it cannot allow
Windows on a dual boot machine to see a Linux partiton. (Cause if Windows in
running on the same computer, then Linux (and Samba) can't be running!)

I dowloaded X-Win32 and have managed to get it working after a fashion. Open
a telnet window, open X-Win32, and issue the command
xterm -ls -display 192.168.0.1:0 &
from the telnet window.
But, the standard ways of opening the X-session, using rsh, rexec, or XDMCP
don't seem to work on my R

It appears that the dummy at the keyboard (me) made what she thought was an
insignificant change...When will I learn not to mess with things that
work
Thanks,

For some reason, the command history (accessed using the line-up & line-down
keys) no longer seems to work when I try to access my RH5.2 Samba server
from my Win95 workstation. Both the root and regular user logins seem to be
affected. By the way, I'm using the standard Win95 telnet program.

It could be a seized fan bearing. Does the fan turn at all

Cheat.
If you've got a second computer

It seems that setting the serial line speed to 38400 solved the login
problem. (And setting it up to use PAP?)
Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions!
I can now connect and ping the universe, but Netscape can't seem to find
anything. Even if I try to access my ISP's web site (http:www.cnwl.i
Now that I'm able to successfully connect, does anyone know the AT command
to silence the darn modem? It's driving me nuts!

PS Just in case its of any use, the modem is an ancient SupraExpress 144i.
