Hey folks,
I'm having just an awful time with audio problems right now. I recently
installed RedHat 7.1. I was running a modified 7.0 with 2.4.3 kernel, 4.0.2

that wasn't supported in 7. When it became to ocumbersome
Hey all,
A friend just asked me a q I could not provide an answer for. They are doing a
large project in which they assume the directory structure will be quite vast

Hi all,
I am having a problem that I hope someone can help me with. I recently
installed RH7 on my intel SMP machine. I upgraded all the packages and then
installed a custom 2.4.2 kernel. The problem is that shortly after startup and
entering X win, the HD starts grinding away for several seco

That's also something I'd had real troubles with. The modem I have is the

Hey all,
I'm on a DSL line and I need to set up a temporary one time FTP server to
have a co-worker transfer to me a very large uncompressed wav audio file.
My quesiton is:
Is there a way to find out my IP address so he can connect?
Our DSL issues dynamic IPs. I have tried a couple web based

According to "Operating Systems Concepts" by Silberschatz and Galvin it
all depends on how you define "Operating System." The first operating
system for computers would have been a human being. The first software

I've chalked it up to about 170 mails from the list today with several old

finally flushed the queue? hehehe :)

The list is a great place to get help with problems you are experiencing,
but I doubt that any one of it's participants has enough time to research
and describe "vmlinuz" for you. At least not in great enough length that
you would likely be satisfied.

Whoops! I should have mentioned that was done with make bzImage so that's
the compressed size :) I'd love to have the kernel that size though!
The stock redhat
Kernel.org is where I get my goods from :)
Keep in mind that the latest stable kernel (last time I checked) is
2.2.16 and redhat's latest rpm's are 2.2.16-3, so unless you wanted a
development kernel, using the rpms is just fine. Regarding the how to,

Just a quick note...
It's been a long time since I studied compilers, and a brief time at that,
so I'm not really qualified to give you any information other than an
opinionso I offer this...
A standard user space program that only uses regular C library functions

You may have that wrong...and its kinda trivial, but if a file is looking
at it then it's critical.
On my 6.2 system the linking for asm is as follows
/usr/include/asm is linked to
/usr/src/linux/inc
I wouldn't (again) blame it on redhat. If the link is missing you should
create it...or just force a reinstall of the source and header packages
and it should do it for you. I've installed kernels from tarballs on my
own and recreated the link, and I just installed one on monday from rpms

Sounds to me like you are missing the kernel headers. Install the kernel
source and make sure that /usr/include/linux is a symlink to
/path/to/kernel-src/in
