Well, I cannot comment on the safety. I can say that I have done it before on the same
motherboard and processor combo. hdparm will do the trick. You can read up on it at
http://www.linux.com. They have in their tune up section a couple of posts about it.

I think his sys admin is full of c***. Ipchains in a good firewall, and if you take
the time to secure your system, then Linux can be very secure. The only problem is
that most distributions have lax security out of the box. However, even this is
improving.

SuSE was never based on Red Hat. It is based on Slackware. It does however use rpms.

Where you got the kernel really shouldn't matter. I too noticed that there are some
options missing. The Power down on shutdown option is no longer included for some
reason. Oh wel, as long as you don't have a dire need to upgrade, I guess it's ok.

I use 6.1, but I'm guessing it is the same. If you go into /etc/sysconfig/network, you
can change:
FORWARD_IPV4=false
to
FORWARD_IPV4=true
That should allow IP-forwarding to start automatically.

As far as I know Red Hat does not require you to buy licences for its products.

The actual sensors are in the motherboard. If you know what motherboard you have, then
you could probably find out the answer from the manufacturer's web site. If you have a
brand name system, then I don't know how you could find out.

Do not put the rpm extension on the file. Try this:
rpm -e mod_ssl-2.6.0_1.3.12-1
That should work.

It should run on a 386 with 32mb.

Hi all:
Does somebody knows how to setup linux to provide RAS dial-up access just
like Windows NT?
Right know AutoPPP doesn't work for me and I have to setup an IP address on
the Windows 95 dial-up networking properties.
Thanks for your help.
