And the easiest addition to that is to stop the mail daemon on the old
system before tar'ing up the directory.

I would like to know the best way to update packages for an old RH7 server.
Currently, I am only interested in rebuilding the Samba 2.2.5-7 package to
work with on my server.
I downloaded the Samba 2.2.5-7 SRPM file from RawHide.

Install it using kernel 2.2*, after that upgrade.
If it doesn't work, install it in 6.2, tar-gz the install directory, copy
it to the 7.* machine and untar it.
After that you just need to copy the oracle scripts in /etc/profile.d and

I know there is the glibc issue which requires the patch and the relink against the
compat rpm's.
However, this patch requires that you install Oracle first, then patch. I cannot get
Oracle to
install at all. It dies in the link phase. I tried applying the patch to the install
staging area
750MHz with 128MB RAM, MB Asus A7V with PDC20265
(ATA 100 controller) and VIA VT82C686a (Apollo chpset rev.22), with PCI
Sound Blaster 1024!, ATI Rage 128 AGP, PCI AVA 2904 SCSI Controller for
external ZIP drive.
Under RH 7.0 all works fine but I must to specify ATA hw address into
lilo.conf as follow
