David, Well, had one pass through most of the documentation. Gulp! ;) I always go into half time with software that directly writes to hardware, with all the adventure that may cause! But, onward! May be a couple of days, but I'll report back. FWIW, what also works is setting a per kernel

John, I think what you want is a package called SVGATextMode. I seem to recall that its configuration wasn't exactly straightforward, but its purpose is to take advantage of the capabilities of your video card while in console mode, which sounds like what you're looking for. I'd be interested
