i've got an old p200 which i installed rh72 on, works quite fine
just one thing : it has an ALS120 sound card, and sndconfig is very unlucky
with it : sndconfig knows about ALS100 and ALS110, but not ALS120. the
problem is that sndconfig can't handle it and can't make it work

sndconfig for the sound card and if you modem is PCI, then it's probably a
winmodem and even if it's not then probably can't use it in linux anyways.

linux even starts, then it is not an OS compatibility
problem. Maybe the sound card is bad? You might try exchanging it where you bought
it before giving up on it.

I have an Aztech 2320 PNP ISA sound card in a Compaq Prolinea 575e
which I had working with Redhat 6.2. The tricky thing is that the
secondary IDE port requires a special Compaq driver to work...so I
put my two hard disks on the primary controller and hooked the cdrom

No. I tried patching, and it needed a few lines tweaked to work with Red
Hat's IPVS patches. It probably would be fairly simple to actually do,
but I didn't really bother.

rpms.
