during capture, the filters have to be expressed with the pcap syntax (the
one used with tcpdump for example) because they are handled by pcap
so type
ip host 10.1.5.2(or : host ip x.y.z.t)
instead of
ip.addr == 10.1.5.2
the latter is the ethereal display filter syntax

Is it common for ethereal to report a checksum error on a lot of
packets? I have been pouring over a dump of a MS access transaction from
an XP box with the data on a samba server. about a third of the 120,000
packets get a checksum (0x) errors ( all these packets originate
from the XP box

I just installed ethereal-0.8.18-9 on a Redhat system using the rpm. I
installed it with the command:
rpm -ivh ether*.rpm
Everything went as expected, no errors.
When I try to run 'ethereal &' from a terminal it doesn't load. I didn't
