I'm just happy that I'm not the only one to whom that one has
happened... ;-)

Is portmap running unblocked on BOTH machines? There was a thread about
this a while back, and while the why of it never came clear, it appears
that RH requires portmap running on both the client AND the server.

I haven't read your other mails, so forgive me if I'm repeating
something you've already checked...
Well one more posting on this. Maybe some Linux Guru will see something over
the weekend.
Thanks for all the trys so far.

How is the 7.3 firewall configured?
I don't remember any major problems mounting an upgraded 7.3
system from a 6.2 server.

I am unable to get NFS to function after a Red Hat 7.3 install.
I can neither get remote clients to mount directories exported from the 7.3
system or get the 7.3 system to mount remote directories.

Thanks,
I figured out the problem. I just had to unmount and remount the NFS
volumes on all machines. Now I have to deal with a bunch of other
things that broke after upgrading to 7.2.

Hi,
I just upgraded a machine to Red Hat 7.2. After upgrading, this machine
won't export its NFS partitions to the other machines in our NIS
network. When I try '/usr/sbin/exportfs' on this new 7.2 machine, I get
these errors:
exportfs: No host name given with /home/public

Thanks Chris & Michael, I'll check these suggestions out !

The syntax for knfsd (at least on my system) is REALLY picky about what it

I'm trying to setup NFS on RH 6.2 with all of the latest patches.
My /etc/exports is as follows:
/u1/REDHAT/RedHat-6.2/ 192.168.1.0/24
>From the local machine, I try:
mount -t nfs rattler3:/ /mnt/test
mount: rattler3:/ failed, reason given by server: Permission denied
I had problems with nfs when I upgraded from 6.0 to 6.1. The solution
was to edit /etc/hosts.allow. I added this line:
ALL : 192.168.0.
The local IP addresses of our computers are 192.168.0.x. Good luck,

What are all the RPM's needed for nfs? I installed a RH 6.2 server,
mountd runs fine. When I try to run nfsd, I get "nfssvc: Function not

Hello,
I'm having a slight problem with NFS that a file that is being written to

apache to save logs onto a nfs drive. The access log works fine, th

Try adding "insecure" to the lines in
/etc/exports, such as:
/Admin (insecure)
We had to do that here, so that our BSD
machines could use their default nfs port.

Hello Paul,
your output from rpcinfo does´nt show the "pcnfsd" daemon !!
here my output on a RedHat 5.0 Box:
program vers proto port
102 tcp111 rpcbind
102 udp111 rpcbind
151 udp635 mountd
152 udp635 mountd

I use Samba instead of NFS mounts. I agree Samba is easier, but for
educational purposes, I need to determine if I can get NFS mounts to
work using MOUNTD. Also, I posted the request over the long weekend when
