has some proprietary hacks in it to support their idea of a "Windows NT Domain"
that only NT servers are supposed to grok.

try tracerouting your ISP's DNS server and
see if it is reaching the other side of the PPP link.
4) If you have no control over your ISP's routes, then you can enable
masquerading on the Red Hat box and bypass the problem entirely.

In Unix, the 0x notation is almost always used because that is the notation

that boot option. Some boot floppies need the kernel to figure it out for

The hurricane list would be appropriate since this was a bug with 5.0's
initscripts. Their errata page has a fix for it.

Two points:
1) Remove the default gateway settings. pppd will set them automatically.
2) Add your ISP's DNS server&
t;add" a
PPP link, make it use PAP, mark it as user controllable, and you're done. Use
usernet to bring the link up and down.

Another thing to check is to make sure your modem and your kernel are in
agreement as to which IRQ to use.

Is your /dev/modem symlinked to /dev/ttys0 instead of /dev/ttyS0?

For an exhaustive list, check the 'chat' man page. chat is actually a pretty
useful program. You can make it resend a string when no reply is found and a
whole bunch of other goodies.

P
anufacturers provide these to MS, they must be the right
init strings to use. Fortunately, there's no NDA for AT sequences. ;) So just
borrow the Win95 init string and insert them into your chat script.

The next time the network script runs (at boot-up or when switching run-levels),
