Hello Jamie.
I have written part of the rdstreamdata few years ago.
Some unpublished changes were made last year to make it work with Rivendell
2.8 under Ubuntu 12.04, I remember that I have had to split it into 2
daemons, one was written in Python and writes UDP output from Rivendell
into a
-jobs.tar.gz
They work pretty good having jackd as audio backend.

I see no reason for 48k when we're using CD's as source.
Anyway a ressample would work. And take more disk space too.

I Think rsync'ing your /var/snd to the local machine would help a lot.
After recording you could rsync back only the voice files.
Anyway accessing MySQL over a WAN link it's not the optimal.

Hi Mark, I'm glad to know darkice is getting better.
Few years ago when it lost connection to server and then reconnected there
was a terrible white noise. It happened when using along with jackd. Is it

Hi Brian, in the old times tape cart machines there was an extra track
dedicated to record tones that indicated the begining of audio and segue
points. Nowadays we use the markers within Rivendell, but sometimes we
still call them tones. I think that's it.

log it creates a copy of that event instead of moving it. Is it normal?

1010LT and ALSA under Rivendell 1.7.3 some years ago. Never found the
reason, It does not happen when using jackd between ALSA and Rivendell.

If you need 2 mono stations, why don't you simply record it to a single
stereo stream? One station per channel.
I never tried, but I think you can run multiple instances of rotter in the
same jack server.

I used Netjack where latency didn't matter. It was a streaming environment
and the audio card was only for monitoring purposes.
It was running over Xen.

I Always used the default -13dB and it just works fine.

What normalization levels do folks here use?
I just discovered that one client of mine nornmalizes everything to -13 dB
while
(that makes me want to cry!!) and so they always sound louder
even with same peak level.

You could write a shell script like this:
#!/bin/bash
command to mute the channels
sleep 30 # pauses the scrit for 30 seconds
command to unmute the channels
If you're using alsa or jack with alsa backend, you can use amixer commands
to mute or unmute.
