How is offloading all graphical and extended tag WPS functions to a plugin
in conflict with keeping it simple?
First, it keeps the core simple and that's my primary concern. Then, it is
still (in my opinion) *simpler* than the previously suggested method

I certainly don't think we should do that. This WPS plugin idea I'm talking
about would run instead of the normal WPS, as the normal would be built-in
exactly
You're right about that, but I think that would be a rather small penalty for
running your own wps like this. Also, a TSR can't do anything with the GUI so
it would take some new trick if that's desired.

I don't know the internals of rockbox that much, but what happens if I want
to enter the file browser or the main menu? If the WPS is not a TSR it would
be exited and then loaded again -> disc spinup.

But maybe I'm completely wrong here.
If we have the wps in a plugin (which is then a tsr plugin) what
happens if I want to load another plugin? Or another tsr plugin?

Also trying to think of ways to add functionality without affecting

As for making a new plugin to do the whole wps, I thought everyone was

I second that. What problem are you trying to solve?

Well in that case what is it exactly that is wanted, originally the patch just
exited the menu quickly when play was pressed. it was suggested that it
should be the menu (or A-B in the case of irivers)
The patch ended up doing the exact same as the file tree:
play goes to WPS (and starts
