When I tried to run sage as root and issued the plot3d command in the notebook, I got the following error message on the console from which I issued the sage command: PIPE: appletviewer wrote: running PIPE: appletviewer read: instance-9777-0 PIPE: appletviewer read: tag http://localhost:8000/

Thanks for the suggestion. It works !!! Then I tried to rerun some of my old worksheets and had a problem with plot3d. I got an empty gray rectangle, no display. plot3d was working very nicely when I was running opensuse 10.2 !! I opened http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml to test
