There are a couple of possibilities:
* run the service as system account with desktop interaction and specify a
username/password for the remote checks that need authentication
* run the servie as a domain account

Maybe someday.
But this is not part of the make-over I was asking about. You're asking for a

You have both group and dependencies, that's correct.
But an entry depends on another entry OR is part of a group, not both. So this
is not just a GUI change, but a logical change too.

For me, the biggest impact would be to have 2 different ways of
displaying and organizeing the checks.
1) by logical group
2) by dependencies
Since you have both these data elements, let the GUI display both. Let
me organize by logical group regardless of the physical dependencies,
and let me ma
Dirk,
My biggest requests would be this:
1) Separate out the GUI from the check engine.
2) Make the GUI just for handling the config and make it
more robust.
Let the check engine run as a service and let the GUI be a mechanism to
manage the check configuration and
I'll third that^^

I wouldn't mind a *nix cron style of schedule input. We use taht elsewhere, so
the team is fairly used to it.

Hi Di
Ohh please for the love of god yes!
Also would it be possible to make a changes wizard that allows us to clt+click
or shift click, aka “highlight” multiple entries then click on a
“MASTER EDIT” button that would pull up a normal edit window that
would be blank, and anything we enter in that
I’ll second that!

Hi Dirk
When you are filing in the "Schedule" information, would it be possible to type
in the actual times for the schedule, rather than try to select tiny little
boxes? My eyesight seems to be getting worse by the day, so I really struggle
to see what times I've selected using the current
In the schedule tab when you mouse over or maybe select a square could
it display the time you have actually selected somewhere? That seems to
be the hardest part of the gui figuring out the tiny little schedule
boxes.

You can still make changes using find/replace in a text editor though if
not running beta. Making the obvious backup of oringial config first :)
Only downside is you do need to restart the app or services as you then
don't have direct access to the service / apps as config is cached
internally.
To be fair I can't see that Dirk was being curt he was simply saying
that many of the enhancements suggested were new features, that is not
to say thay they would be ignored and not addresses but I believe the
point was to ask for cosmetic suggestions and possibly examples.
Features can always be a
In the "changes wizard" you can select to make to change on
* all entries
* all entries of checktype
* all entries that are member of group
* all entries were server name is (<- added after the
release of v6 I think, so that is within the beta only)

Doesn't this just blanket change username and/or password? I have a mix
of different credentials for different networks. Will they all get reset
or can I choose which checks to apply them too?

With the "changes wizard" you can update the username/password/authentication.

Fair point - 80% of my checks are domain servers though and this would
require me adding credentials to at least another 200 checks.
Now, if we had a credentials manager :-) this wouldn't be such a

1) If you run it as local system account you can authenticated towards other

Steve,
Sorry mate but you are wrong, run as local service with desktop
integration and supply credentials for each check, we do it, have a
dedicated account for SA to use so you can audit logons and all works
fine.

Dirk,
1) You cannot run the service with desktop interaction unless it runs as
localservice. If it runs as localservice it cannot authenticate with any
other windows servers. To be able to autheniticate with other Windows
servers, the service needs to log in with a local or domain account and

Might be a new feat but it is falling under the GUI ... Could we have

1. The GUI IS the service or IS the app, so it's interacting directly.
If you run the service as system account with desktop interaction and call the
gui via the system-tray icon then you're working directly on the service.
2. That's not a gui change that's a totally new feature

1) My biggest bugbear with the GUI is the fact you can't interact
directly with the service. If running as a service I'd like to be able
to go in and make changes but I have to stop the service, fire it up as
an APP, make changes, shut down app, restart service.
