we not make it so that we can track who has downloaded what
so that, if the author of the particular item wanted to contact the
owners of teh software via email to perhaps offer upgrades, sell
manuals, offer other deals etc.

developing for it, albeit on a VERY small scale. But there are some basic facts
we should all be told:
