Depending on the version of samba you don't need stunnel running on the
samba server. Just configure samba to run with SSL on usual 139 port.
On the client try the command line "D:\stunnel\stunnel.exe -c -d
127.0.0.2:139 -r :139 -n smb" for stunnel.

I've downloaded Samba 2.2.4 today and attempted to install it on our Compaq
AlphaServers running Compaq Tru64 v5.1A. It configures OK, but "make"
produces a few serious looking warnings. I've captured both "./configure"
and "make" to the attached text file.

I assume in unix you opened the file directly, without going through samba.
If so, what did you expect?
I would try turning off oplocks first. If that doesn't work, then invoke
strict sync = yes or some such syntax.

smb.conf in .../lib. Should I worry? When I installed 2.2.3a
similarly, it installed its own smb.conf.

I'm a little confused. I'm trying to understand how Samba authenticates
a user on the Unix side when security=user.
The help page says that if my user names are the same on Unix and MS
(and they are) , then I probably want to use security=user. I ASSUMED

The smbpasswd file is used when encrypt passwords = yes is used. AFAIK, if
you want to authenticate against /etc/passwd, you need to use plain text
passwords. A registry hack will be needed on your Windows clients. A google
search will clear up the details on that.

I just confirmed that the attrib problem (archive bit mapping being only one
way) that is in 2.2.3a and previous versions, is fixed in 2.2.4. Samba now
plays nicely with BackupExec!

Are there settings I need to add to get Quickbooks multiuser to work on a Samba

The Quickbooks data resides on a RedHat 7.2 box running Samba 2.2.1a. The
clients are Quickbooks 2000 pro; one is one client win98 and two are win2k. It

I am on Mac os x and am running Samba x. When running SWAT under passwords
for adding new user I get an error that says;
"The attempt to load 'Accessing URL: http://127.0.0.1:901' failed"
