I followed with 2nd solution:
2nd: enable password sync in smb.conf - so, ntPassword and userPassword will store the
same pwds!
When I changed password with w2k(client), it change ntPassword and
linux password(/etc/shadow) instead.
But userPassword does not change.

I was able to set up the Ldap-Directory itself, storing the Users in the
Directory, this all is working.
But was not able to let the Workstations join the Domain. Here i don't

I have just recently installed samba 2.2.5 in solaris 8.0 . Everything
seems to be fine. I can access the samba server from my windows client
using the ip address, but when i try to access it with netbios name, it
fails. Gives the message network path not found. What could be the problem?

Sorry. Samba does NOT support having No Unix Account (NUA) for users and
groups. We tried to implement this but there are way too many issue that
caused us to remove it before Samba-3.0.0Beta1.
Bottom line: You need Unix accounts.

Can you tell me how you hooked up winbind and nsswitch? PAM should not be

When writing a (1MB+) file to my samba share, I can lock the
file locally (from Delphi) which seems kinda really horrible.
Meaning this happens :
Windows machine : Copy large-ish file to samba share
Linux server : check for file; when file is created, open file and
read contents.
Will Samba 1.9.16 work with a Windows server running Windows 2000? I
have an old unix server that I have Samba 1.9.16 loaded and we are
upgrading the Windows server.

I see - what type of domain account are you using? Your method is right tho,
setting the services to run under a domain account. I just want you to be
absolutely sure that the account is administrator. If this is a test
environment, you could start by running the service as root, and see if it
work

I have a Linux box with 2 printers attached and 1 scanner. One printer connects with
LPT1, the other with USB and the scanner is USB also.
I want to share all these within my local network. For that, I installed Samba.
