our costumers are using using AutoCAD from 2002-2007 on samba 2 + 3.
IMHO, samba 2 may be a good choice for AutoCAD.

AUTOCAD acnnot access this files - throwing error (translated) "cannot

Afterwords, I booted my W2K client machine and logged on to the domain. The
logon script doesn't run, but otherwise everything is fine. From the
client, I can map drives manually, access files, etc. all without errors.

You are right, I am using "security = domain" at the
PDC, isn't it suppose to be?
security = domain means, that your samba looks for an password server in
this domain and uses this authentication.
the password server is written in "password server ="
so samba could not find the password server
