The new Johnny Quest was radically different between seasons one and two. It
had a troubled production, cost a lot of money, but disappointed Cartoon
Network in its performance. There were a lot of fights on the creative teams as
to everything from Johnny's age (as old as 14 in the first season,

I agree. It's been a delight. Nothing I've seen recently is on the level of
Samurai Jack or Avatar at its best, but I like the family, the action, and the
colors. The overall animation is a bit off, as some have said. It's as if
they're trying to go for the look of the old Johnny Quest, which ha
Im sorry...I just dont have time for mediocre work anymore...especially if I
have watched better and know of better stories/shows in the same and
different medium...
I think this is the problem with genre entertainment these days...

I loved Johnny Quest but it's a product of its time. Plus the Venture
Brothers has basically ruined it for me.
I like that the Secret Saturdays is going for the Doc Savage/Tom
Strong science hero vibe. Lots of cool tech, family dynamic and
anthropomorphic sidekick(s). It works for me.

You win with the Johnny Quest ref. EXACTLY. PERFECT reference. NICE one.
You don't have to be "Space Ghost" to be for kids. You can take
science seriously. I think, in that regard, I agree. Secret Saturdays
is soft and has a little way to go. For one, maybe the Chewbacca
dude has to go.
Xhaolin Showdown is a good example of what I am talking about. Let me
redefine soft.
Johnny Quest was cold because the charaters are kid friendly but the science
and tech was "hard".
Any genre show has to have some kind of "hard" line for the sake of validity
and watchability. Without i...it migh
Doctor Who does dark nicely, and it's an all-ages show It's all in how
you do it, definitely. I like dark, but it isn't for everyone.

I hear you. Dark can lose an audience and this is a fun kidcentric
show.I don't think the target audience would be too pleased if this
started looking like Evangelion or Full Metal Alchemist. LOL!
You can do dark and still make a fun show. Xhaolin Showdown's
villains were pretty nasty and when
You're waiting on the Warren Ellis written Secret Saturdays episodes,
perhaps?
The show's softness is actually one of its better qualities. it
maintains itself as a kids show. there is still a large audience of
kids who haven't seen a lot of anime, so getting too dark could be

The show is kinda soft to be honest. It plays with dark themes but doesnt
really deliver

I love the show too. I believe they said that Doc is trained in fourteen
different martial arts styles, and to boot, he uses a power glove he invented
to increase his strength. But you're right that he could do some more butt
kicking.

I'm hooked on Secret Saturdays. It's really great to see a black
science based hero and the family dynamic really adds to the show. I
just wish Doc was more of a buttkicker at times.
I forgot about Brave and the Bold but I managed to Tivo the repeat today.
