It is interesting that you got that answer since activated charcoal should remove arsenic. Is it the high pH of the water causing the problem? Yes, I'm familiar with all this. I've read enough material over the years regarding 'compounds'. I've used rain water on several occasions, emergencies take precedence over purity of water in such cases in the short term. Meters are no good if using this water though so it's all guesswork
