If you're using Polycom phones what you could possibly do is set up an EFK for
each site as documented here:
http://sites.google.com/site/sipxecstipsandtricks/polycom-phones and have them
press a "PickUp" EFK button and enter the "park slot" and have the polycom EFK

As I slowly replace old systems at remote locations, I have to mirror
their current setup. Even if I don't like it, that is what I have to do.
Several of the sites have a single person answer all calls, put the call
on hold, and then page "Bob, call on line 1".

We recently did a deployment with about 50 remote yealink phones. They work
well and the price is nice...the TP26 and above have a builtin openvpn client

But they have to be configured by hand and have issue
Yes and No. Only myself and one other person have 560's remotely. Softphones
are a cheaper route, and since both use the same connection, in my opinion a
better option overall.
Check around tho...you can get IP 560's for under $200 in quite a few

Domenico,
that sounds really interesting!
I know that there are some settings that still require a reboot of the phone
when they are changed. Does your patch handle that?
How do the phones behave when changing such a setting and sending profile
without rebooting?

Polycom is always my first choice. I stick with the HD capable models because
they just sound so much better :)
I've heard Snom has a decent lineup as well.
I've tried Grandstream phones with sipX and they have a lot of issues,
especially with BLF. They also have strange REFER issues.

Hi,
Can someone recommended me an IP phone that works great with Sipx? I have been
using Cisco phones for my remote users but there is always a problem, specially
with NATting..
Thanks

Per your recommendation, I worked to make the necessary repos changes and then
successfully upgraded the system to version 4.2.1. Then we made test calls

Is the snom configured manually? Do you have it set to "force domain"? What
does the registration look like for it?
Just like xlite when used remotely, the m3 needs to send its local address.

Can you capture a trace via wireshark on the port where m3 is connected?
The thing is that sipx does "media relay" for remote workers, but sipx does
it in a bit complicated way...
Not all phones understand the way, sipx does "media relay".
I suspect that snom does send rtp to remote worker but it
DNS doesn't technically matter for a web server however the sipXecs services
may not be functioning properly... always get your DNS set first (specially
if you are using an off-system dns).

The local phone is snom m3 and the remote phone is x-lite. I did a
tcpdump on sipx server and it shows rtp traffic proxied to the snom

Please note, the external phone calls (via sip trunk) from remote

If you run
setstatus
It will tell you the selinux status and policy.
With centos 5 you can edit the selinux config directly
/etc/selinux/config
And change the policy to disabled with
SELINUX=disabled
If it is enabled or permissive. All selinux changes need a reboot to be
persistent though.
In your grub.conf file you would pass a kernel argument at the end of the
kernel line (or edit the one that is there).
selinux=0
Then save the file.
chkconfig iptables off
service iptables stop
Then if selinux is running, a reboot would be required.
Tony Graziano,
Thanks,
Can you point me in a direction where to find these settings?
