[RCSE] How should an HLG launch?

2000-08-10 Thread Keith Crippen
I've never tried HLG before. Before I break something... My first attempts last night with my brand new Orion were fine for light throws, but my last throw seemed to indicate too much negative stab incidence. I had to use down elevator to maintain about a 45 deg. climb, then almost lost it when

The last of its kind. I just received Cy Rahm's personal winch, N.I.B. He never got around to using it and has no plans to make any more. I didn't need it but thought as hard as they are to get it was too good to pass up. It has the foot switch and plywood base but no turn-around.

Keith, The most efficient climb angle is almost straight up. Seventy five or so degrees is about right as anything greater will drift behind you on the way up and make it hard to get a good transition at the top. The steeper it goes, the less drag is induced by the coef of lift. -- Dick Barker

I charge my 1500 or 1600maH AA 8 cell Nimhs on my G325 all the time at 3A - even 3.5A. The trickle seems to be ok too, altho unnecessary. It's nice also to not have to worry abt memory effects. Just stick them on the charger anytime. Of course, what ur talking abt is charging on the 4 cell

Re: [RCSE] How should an HLG launch?

2000-08-10 Thread Bill Swingle
Immediately after launch the HLG's speed bleeds off exceptionally quickly. Thus, you either convert the launch energy into altitude RIGHT NOW or it's gone. To maximize the conversion, straight up is what you try for. The most efficient throw for most is either straight ahead or even slightly

2000-08-10 Thread Jason Werner
Mark, I think if you do the "math" a launch that places the plane in exactly the correct climb angle (say 75-90 degrees up) that will be the best launch. Why? Well if you assume some things then the turn is the high drag component. So assume the following: - launch speed is
