[RCSE] snagged by the towline!

2002-07-17 Thread Harley Michaelis
I'm wondering how others rig the end of the towline to avoid it snagging the tail on release. This has happened numerous times in the past and twice lately. I know about circling over the stake which is fine if there is control, but sometimes the ship just loses airspeed and tumbles down. Most

We use a retriever at our site and a bridle (length of line with a ring on both ends, and a ring attached to the towline/retriever line) so that the tow ring is away from the retriever line. Do you attach the ring to the parachute, and thus to the model, or do you have a length of line from the

Re: [RCSE] snagged by the towline!

2002-07-17 Thread Jason Werner
I don't think it is rigging. If you do a correct zoom launch there will always be pressure down and away from the plane by the towline. The plane completes an arc around the line and zooms/ping off. The plane should never be closer to the chute. 99.9% of the time that the plane catches

I had an elevator related incident this weekend that I haven't seen before, especially on a DLG. After the HSS SC-2 contest Larry Pettyjohn and I were flying and comparing launch height on basically the same plane, one at 9.5 oz. and the other at 11.5 oz. I thought we were throwing at about the

Harley and all, I use a length of line attached between the tow ring and the 'chute, perhaps 18 inches long. When the line comes off the towhook, the weight of the ring causes it to fall away from the plane, and faster than the 'chute. And, of course, I ALWAYS use a welded steel ring, not a key
