Hi All
Removing old monokote/solarfilm/ultracoat colo(u)r from balsa is fairly
easy. Using a covering iron, iron some paper kitchen towel down on to
the mess and remove after a few seconds while still warm - the coloured
adhesive comes away easily with the tissue and can be discarded.
About six years ago I placed a large order with them, including a JR 8103 radio.
I asked the wife to ship the immediately available portion of the order early
in a separate shipment. She agreed and assured me there would be no extra
charge.
When the first shipment arrived there was a $5.00
Thanks for all the ideas.
I pulled out the monokote iron and a dirty covering sock, and about 15
minutes later all the remaining covering was in little, burnt balls on
the floor. I just kept going back and forth over the covering on fairly
high heat; it would heat up, roll up, and fall off -

Are you sure? My understanding is the airplane and sailplane versions have the

That sounds like ozone (metallic smell). It isn't healthy.

The best switch setup is to slightly moddify the radio and move the Elevator
dual rate switch to the right front panel (where the thermal/cruise/speed
switch is located), move the launch/cruise/land switch one place to the
left( where the elev d/r switch was) and rotate it 180 degrees, and move

Gentlemen, I have the sailplane version, and as it comes out of the box.
there are two 3 position switches on the top face of the radio Tx. One
is directly above the left stick and the other is directly above the
right stick.
I chose to swap locations of the Left 3 position switch over to the
I had run a stout hi start across a baseball diamond one spring.

I have been allergic to lots of stuff, including dust, since childhood.
Several years ago my doc suggested Claritin, which is now generic and not
too pricey. Works for me.

Hard to go wrong with either of those choices. Have a few people on my
home slope with the Voltij and they love it, bit fussy to build, but certainly
managable. You should also consider the Airtech products distributed by
Greg Smith at www.slopeflyer.com.

using on a giant-scale project that's turned into a 'get up a down payment

Hey guys,
Forgot to mention I'm not doing wood kits at this time,

I want to keep the turn around time as short as possible

If your not in a big hurry, I can work on the wood stuff when the

After the SC-2 contest Sunday at SWSA (Covina, CA) we'll be holding a hand
launch contest for all interested flyers. Probably just 4 rounds with 10
minute windows. It'll start at 1:30 pm. Hope to see you there!

Hello Scobie,
Yes, the JR charger for the RADIO (only) is REVERSED.
If you pluged in a charger from a different brand
(with reversed polarity) into the radio it will short
out the fuse in the TX. You will have to replace the
fuse.

That's right, they are. The JR charging plug has the negative connection on

You'd think so, but apparently not because he already said his radio is okay:

Most radios and modern equipment have a diode in them just for this

started and the fuse is still good.
Put it on the regular charger and charge for the right time and you should

A friend of mine did exactly this with a JR 8103. He charged it up, and
it looked OK. 8 minutes into his first flight with a 33% Edge with a
DA100 on it he went into failsafe and crashed into a big lake at the
site. Total loss of the plane.
Batteries are cheap. Spend $30 and get a bigger NiMH

If the pack was healthy to start with, you may be fine. This will depend

There is a lot of bogus mation being passed around.
1st, the JR radio's do have reversed polarity, if you had plugged the Hitec
