Thanks to all who replied!
It sounds like it is easier than I expected. A whole series of coordinates can
be pasted from a text file right into the command window with the SPLINE
command. No need to paste them one by one!

I am trying to learn Autocad basics and the obvious problem is how does one plot
airfoils? More precisely, how can I import a file with airfoil coordinates and
use it with the SPLINE command?

Where are you finding data on the web that makes these look good at low
RE? If I remember my NACA nomenclature, those are laminar flow foils
which ought to be awful at our Reynold's numbers. If you want to use
them you should build a full size plane, unless I'm just full of it.
BTW, what is task o
Hi guys,
those of you who are more familiar with the detailed behaviour of airfoils
in the low Reynolds numbers regime: could you tell me which airfoils are
suitable for a small slope plane with chords between 5 1/2 inches at root
and 3 3/8 inches at tip - I'm especially interested for an airfoil

I do like the carefree nature of EPP wings. Here is a tip for
when you start flying with a composite wing -- learn to catch
the plane by the nose. Now that I do that I'm much less
concerned about putting (more) dent

I saw that episode, those both needed to be building planes out of EPP...

Actually, there was another one where they built full size man-carrying gliders and
launched them off a slope (the idea being to see how far down the slo

I know the disadvantages of EPP wings such as the difficulty of
maintaining a true airfoil, lack of stiffness especially in torsion,
"prune skin" and surface imperfections caused by the underlying tape,
different behavior in different air temperatures, etc. I have even

You guys are taxing my brain and that seems to make it hurt. However, I
seem to remember several pages of airfoil profiles and a breif description of
each along with practical applications in the old blue NSP Catalog.

While a list of airfoils with layman descriptions wouldn't be too difficult
to make; your second request is much tougher. Understanding "why certain
airfoils are used together blended in a wing and why" is a very large
question. There are guys who spend careers doing exactly that. It takes BIG

I think this information would be handy for most
everyone here. It would be nice to have a good
description in laymans terms of characteristics.
Possibly also a description of why certain airfoils
are used together blended in a wing and why.

Does anyone know the airfoil coordinates for the Wright Flyer, 747, F-18? I
want to cut some examples of these for my son's teacher since they are doing
a section on aviation in school.

I have tried numerous URL addresses for the Selig Airfoil site in the past

thank you.
