Title: Crystal Update
JRs are sold to Marc G.
I still have the rest. gv
I bought a used plane complete with servos and reciever. I need to change out
the crystal that's in the reciever to match my system and need some help
figuring out what I need. The reciever does not have a label on it, so I don't
know the manufacturer. It has a crystal with a grey plastic

If it doesn't have any makers marks, then I would just get another receiver.
Not worth the chance IMHO

By the way, that sounds very much like a JR crystal. Does it look like the
one in this picture from Horizon Hobby? (Note that the channel number label
was removed.)
Like D O I used to believe that Crystals are Crystals
My main use of crystals since the late 70's was Microprocessors
About 10 years ago I purchased some Microprocessors that suggested
using a series resistor but did not suggest a precise value. I used

I know Tom Copp asked for wish list items for planes. Here is one for the
manufacturers. I would like to see receivers with a separate mounting
option for crystals. Some sort of extension lead where the crystal could be
mounted independently of the receiver.
Anyone who has been asked to change
Is the crystal exchange at Radical RC still in operation? I get no response to my

Thanks

Hi Tony,
You are correct in your answer and I was too quick to give a short answer
and go. Some crystals do tell what frequency they are cut to or for but this is not
always the case.
Buying a crystal for channel 32 ,for example, doesn't tell enough to swap crystals.
It depends on
the MFG.'s
radio to this list so we can have a
reference of which radios can swap and which can't?

Crystals resonant in two different modes:- "Series resonant" and "Parallel
Resonant". Which mode is used is dependant on the type of resonance a
particular crystal is cut for and the circuit it is placed in. A crystal cut
for series resonance at 40 MHz may well have a parallel resonance quite

Matt/All,
Well, I don't know about other brands, but the Multiplex Profi 3030 I bought
from Multiplex USA (before I came to the UK) has a swappable crystal right on
the RF module. The crystal plugs in, just like a receiver crystal. So, no
