Is 7000 hours really quite long? A device like the Soekris is supposed
to run 24x7 - and at 24 hours a day 7000 hours are less than 10 months.
I would expect a working life of at least 5 years or 45000 hours for any
component used in a comput
eir existing products at about the time Soren stopped
posting. That's now almost 4 years ago.

Have you tried this? It doesn't seem plausible. I would expect the power
consumption to remain roughly constant independent of input voltage (so
at 6V it would draw about 1A). A constant current would mean that the
regulator just burns any excess voltage.

is great, we see 150MB/s, but write performance is
limited to 20MB/s regardless of which SSD or interface type that we
use.
I have 60 GB Intel mSATA SSD in a 6501, and get about 170 MB/s read and
90 MB/s write performance with the default kernel of Debian stable
(3.2).

Otherwise I don't really see how the BIOS could prevent exposing that

Yes.

No. 0x80 is the first disk, 0x81 the second, etc.
Since his CF card is configured as primary master, that should be 0x80.

Does anyone know a way around this problem (I already checked the grub

[1] The OP in this thread got it to work with LILO instead of grub -
that's what I'll try next, but I think upgrading the BIOS should
work, too.
