Yes- make sure to check out the vids here as even some of the old ones have
good tips. Kind of like the Vast training was for XSI (came in shoe box on
disks):

There is a searchable database version done by a user. Not sure how up to
date it is but
BTW- weight painting is known to be slow- but they are working on it
getting much faster. Just something you'll notice coming from SI with it's
awesome vector/weight painting tool set IMHO.

You can always render to final size with Preview if you want to just let it
cook at X amount of time per frame and walk away from it. Obviously not a
total solution given Preview doesn't run on a network (yet), but it's an
option.
I think comparing the MODO render engine to Arnold is kind of
I think the problem here is that A) people on this list are rational human
beings who care about the software they use for a number of valid reasons
and B) the only real motivation is ultimately what AD thinks share holders
will respond to- which is to look like they either lost less in a quarter
Well, he swung by PDX on the last AD tour along with their other reps.
Needless to say, he was the best presenter, not just because he actually
was entertaining, but because he actually did an honest demo (aka he knows
how to use the software). Could not say that about the other two
demonstrators
A lot of these videos are either OLD or slightly on the marketing edge and
they are not ordered, but many are still relevant and worth watching and
all free. It's a bit like the VAST training or discs that use to come with
XSI in the shoe box so many are very basic, and a few are slightly more
Keep in mind that while companies don't like to divulge things until near
or know for release, companies that are not traded openly on the stock
markets are a little more free with their info (good or bad). One good
reason to take a look at the Foundry and SideFXs products AFAIK.

Octavian - a couple of things:
MODO, as a public application, started with a modeling feature set, BUT,
the frame work Nexus was made well before to be scalable since the idea
all along was to create a full featured application.
The reason that they started with modeling from what I can tell,
Hi-
Just modeling in another package (modo) and came into a bit of an argument
over a tool that was incorrectly merging points on a mesh when sliced.
I was told the issue was that I had points, on the same layer/mesh that
were in the same place (was trying to make a forced SDS hard edge).
Now,
at least 3 points that each have an identical twin. SI is
totally fine with it.

Modo render engine has some nice parts to it- and some good things exposed
right out in front. IMHO, the biggest issues are with the shader tree
and, not so much on the render side, but the ability for modo to handle
large scenes AND do net rendering right.
Modo also feels more like mr in that it
