I wonder why so much money is necessary? We keep hearing how "unrealstic" we

Hello all,
here i am, trying to make biodiesel in tiny barbados. Now, I've
managed to make biodiesel with both WVO and fresh vegi oil as tests,
and they have come out great. (beginner's luck?) :o) I did my
titrations pretty well considering I didn't have the most accurate
equipment. However
This does appear to be the case .Here is a link to the relevant

Hi,
America's first biodiesel Limousine rolled out onto the Interstate today!
The Limo is a factory built 300D always stored inside with 50,000 original
miles, mint condition. I ran the tank nearly empty and filled up with World
Energy Biodiesel with the engine running. About 60 seconds after

By "government issue" I was speaking of "generic," "run of the mill,"

I was under the impression that bypass filters of the "deep media" type
returned their small volume of deeply filtered oil back into the oilstream,
with the eventual result being that the total oil conte

I'm not sure what that means, do you mind rephrasing that?
Does that mean that the bypass system contaminates the oil, or doesn't
remove some contaminates?

Mr. (James) Slayden,
Your quite welcome. The perspective is, after all, a bit more removed from
the anthropocentric "brink" that you suggested.
Problem is that when humans think of the natural world strictly in the terms
of human immediacy and utility they more often than not fail (or

Todd,
Your statement of government using bypass filters has lead Caterpillar to
no longer warranty their engines for the military (in a particular vehicle).
It has been found that the contaminated oil after bypass has kicked in destroys
the fuel system of the cat engine rather quickly.
So what you say is that if I was to make my own BD at home for my own
use I have to pay Johnnie 34cents a litre also get a licence.
Or is this only if I was to sell it on to the public?

Todd (Mr. Swearingen),
Thanks for the Naturalist viewpoint, but my post was in reference to the
original subject line "Re: [biofuel] forest fires and using wood biomass
as fuel". Had we the discussion on the manzanita's intrinsic value to the
human population, my reply would have been different.
This is true. When I called NREL about a year ago to find out if they had
organic strains, they were somewhat suprised that I didn't want the GM
strain that could produce more oil. I indicated that as well as balancing
the oil content, it was also and ethical principle that the strains be

Not to be picky or anything, but, I would be interested to know the type of the

that breeding hybrids of one kind or another is the same as genetically

This is the best! And it pretty much explains the sustainable vs factory

Hello Dave
I think both you and Karen would do better at the sister list,
Biofuel, with such questions. It's a general list with a much bigger
membership than this one, which is supposed to have a focus on
small-business issues.
