An alpine hut is a hut in high mountains as the alpine climate is a high-mountain climate or an alpine plant is a plant that grows in alpine climates. Alpine hut is used in this sense in OSM. There is even a wine growing area in Australia called Alpine Valleys, if I am not mistaken. :-) Volker On
