I had that problem and turned off some things in Internet Explorer under the
View Menu.
I turned off most all the items under the ToolBar selections Menu.
Also, there are the items under the Explorer Bar menu you might want to
experiment with turning off.
I do have the tools bar locked whatever
I have the same thing happen a lot. My home page is google, whe I ope IE
it usually puts me in the edit search box, but then if I go to M.facebook it
usually puts me up at the top of the window where the refreash button, etc
is and it takes several tabs to get to the page.

I think what you are actually hearing is that the favorites pane is open on the
left. To check and remove it, go to the View menu and arrow down to the
Explorer Bars menu option, which is second to the top on my menu. The first
submenu option is Favorites. Hit enter on this to toggle it off.

Internet explorer is not dying completely. I just read an article
not 5 minutes ago that says that internet explorer will still be
available for professionals, and people with legacy needs. so it won't
be gone completely from windows 10.
