osing only a *single* thread with "-" is only possible when the first mail in a thread has the focus. Here too, Gravity seems superior, as "-" will close a *single* thread (and leaving others expanded) on *any* mail in the thread. Is there a way to achieve this in TB!?

at TB! isn't capable of doing that. What you can try is a german tool named Hamster with Korrnews http://home.knuut.de/tgl/own/hamtools.htm which will act as it's own mail and news server and will do the replacements.
