It's possible, but too difficult. The hardware isn't the problem. The
installed OS is. I have a Pogoplug on the way, which is much easier to
hack.

This is beyond me. I figure I'll need to run a virtual machine with
similar specs to the Touch so I can install a full linux setup then
compile a binary to transfer over and install. Perhaps a pogoplug will
be enough.
Anyone wanna try this and share?
Thanks!

I'm trying to understand why you want to put transmission on the Touch
in the first place. My understanding is that it is its own linux
distribution with a bunch of studio music apps (synthesizers, drum
machines etc). If all you want to do is play music, most people will
run MPD, I'm sure you can
There is also a bit torrent client named transmission .
But consider that you have to clean out the rubish files after
downloading and adjust the file tags ! This is neccesary just trusting
dl file to come with decent tags is a 100% sure way to end up with
scanning problems or artifacts in the
Also check out Transmissions dependencies , the Linux on Touch is very
small it migth not come with everything expected.
I think what mnyb wanted to say is: forget it :-). It's not worth the
hassle unless tinkering is part of the fun for you. A plug computer would
serve you much better.

I want to install Transmission on the Touch, removing the need for
running my full server 24/7. The Touch doesn't have apt-get or dpkg.
I'm also not sure what binary to install or if any of the existing ones
would work. I'm essentially Linux-stupid. I know the hardware is
similar to those on
There is a problem with this, there is a watchdog timer on the Touch, if
you don't run squeezeplay (the main SB program) the watchdog times out
and the machine reboots.
Soundchack has a way to turn off the watchdog in his Touch Tool Kit. Go
search the net for TT3.0, download it and look through
I got the TT3.0 installed. Nice mods. Now I just need to find an ARM11
version of transmission and to figure out how to install a binary. :)
