Sorry!
If I buy a Western Digital External Hard Drive that has it's own power
supply, do I really need one with an Ethernet port or a regular one
with USB would do?
Thanks!

USB drive is what you need for attaching to TOUCH.

The Western Digital normal hard drive is about a hundred or so dollars
less than the networked one. I saw a list of compatible hard drives on
a site somewhere and I can't find it now. Anybody got a link?

Hi Everyone,
The SB Touch seems like the best solution as a controller for my
laziness. The ONLY reason I want to buy this is to connect it directly
to an external HDD to play FLAC. I am eyeing the Benchmark DAC1 and
either an Arcam, Rotel, Anthem or Naim AMP later on.
I do NOT want to use a
Hi Shahab,
there are a few things you can do to maximize the probability that
things will work right off the bat. First use a USB drive that has its
own power supply so that it doesn't have to get power from the Touch.
Try and get one that doesn't have auto sleep mode, or at least one that
has
chzhzhang,
Your post #20 indicates that John's changes don't produce extra
information about what's going wrong: the log just states that there is
an out of memory error during artwork scan. My experiment with John's
changes has the same result. I did put the tracks with large artwork
back,
Teus,
I finally got it worked out. Here is what you need to do:
SSH into the Touch, type:
cd /etc/init.d
cp squeezecenter squeezecenter.orig
vi squeezecenter
Find the line which is:
start)
Then find the line that starts with:
nice -n 5 $BASE/slimserver.pl
On this line delete the word:
John,
Thank you very much for finding this. However, there is a complicating
factor. As I stated a few posts earlier, I discovered there was one
folder with files with large embedded images. I deleted this images
from the files in my main library. Tonight I let the Vortexbox make a
new backup.

Well the only plus I am going to say here is the Squeezebox touch server
(in the touch itself) indeed is a capable unix system and comes with
many (if not all) standard unix features, although I think the credit
goes to unix and open source communities, not logitech.
I have had frustrating
Sounds like you might have no room for Touch to work. The Touch needs
open drive space to write to the drive. Personally, I would have left
the drive as one large 1.5TB NTFS or ext3 partition.
Do you have a small USB drive or Stick that you can use to test the
Touch? Remember it is going to take
I have the same problem as the OP and I don't think drive space is the
problem (in my case I'm even sure of that). As I already said in two
other threads: there's something wrong with the artwork scanning. I'm
almost sure there will be an out of memory message during artwork
scanning in the log.

Thanks John, there's no need to hurry. However, it would be nice to find
what's going wrong in the artwork scan.

How do you install the beta version of software?
You have to have an SBS PC/Server and download the 7.6 Beta to run on
it. Once you have done that, the Touch will ask to update the firmware.
Now the Touch has a higher level of firmware which is the current Beta.

Thank you for your suggestions Jim. I have reasons to embed the art on
my main server, but these are invalid for the Touch attached USB drive.
As soon as I have got time I will delete the embedded images from the
flac files and see if this helps. I already followed your second

Thanks for your suggestion again Jim, it solved my problem.
I did not remove the embedded art (maybe I will, but just to test I
didn't), but I sorted on %coversize% in Mp3Tag. This made it clear that
I overlooked one (!) album with very large embedded art ( 300 Kb, about
2100 x 2100 pixels).
I've been working on this.
Is there a bug report for this? Andy's insight might be helpful.
