Hi Shahab, there are a few things you can do to maximize the probability that things will work right off the bat. First use a USB drive that has its own power supply so that it doesn't have to get power from the Touch. Try and get one that doesn't have auto sleep mode, or at least one that has some way to adjust the sleep mode. There have been a few people that bought drives that had programs to adjust settings but this software only worked on PCs, not Macs, and they just had Macs.
Its probably best to avoid drives with multiple partitions, or "virtual CDs", these are designed to work with Windows and can cause problems on a Touch (which does NOT run Windows!) Artwork seems to be the biggest remaining problem, so not having any artwork is a big help towards making sure there will be no problems. This means no separate images and no embedded images in files. Its a good idea to "empty" the trash before using a drive with the Touch. It doesn't know about the Windows trash system and will see any files in the trash as valid files which can cause bizarre behavior some times. Then there is just waiting for the server to finish the scan before trying to do anything. On the listening in the dark, you can set any of the screensavers to screen off (playing, stopped or off) which completely turns off the screen when the screensaver is activated. You can set the delay for how long it takes for the screensaver to become active after your last touch on the screen.
