find the repo for IceCat
Find what? Unless you've done something stupid with your sources list, it
should be in the Trisquel repo.
installing from source
You didn't need to do that.
is there an easy way to install?
It's called apt-get. Just apt-get icecat (as root).
Am I the only person here not experiencing any strange issues with the latest
Abrowser? It works perfectly for me. Haven't changed any settings since before
the update. I don't even mind reader mode. I tried it out the first time,
didn't really see the point (though it is a nice gimmick) and it

That's my battle plan.
It's still about 2/3 cheaper than the average high-end Windows laptop with
equivalent specs.

i am running these 2 servers with 512mb ram and 700mhz cpu:

i run my owncloud server with 1gb ram and 1.66ghz cpu
but it could easily be run on the other lower spec machines
the only things
but it is very easy to install libreboot on a x60 yourself
Icecat was working fine on my system in Trisquel mini, and I think in Mint
too. this is not being a resource hog this is pegging one cpu to max in a
broken sort of way.
try running this command and see if it can be run!:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install git git clone
https://notabug.org/tomlukeywood/freenetbootin.git cd freenetbootin
make sudo ./unetbootin sudo rm -r ../freenetbootin
i fixed grub - boot-pc was not installed only boot-pc bin
??
anyway icecat is still a problem but so far other things are working ok.
it shouldn't be this difficult
I am running an Acer Aspire One. Former Ubuntu user, sat a spell on Debian
too. Been running 6 Toutatis for about 2 years. Install stays pretty stable
for at least that long, even with me installing a lot of extra packages for
testing, so pretty reliable, and simple to use. Easy install,
IceCat has LibreJS add-on installed. It can sometimes be a resource hog,
especially on slower systems.
Now that I checked it with trisquel.info, it seems to require 40+ seconds on
modern hardware. But with LibreJS disabled the website loads quite fast.
I am experiencing the same behaivour, but setting the reader.parse.onload to
false didn't help. Icecat is unaffected.
I also get the same output as ssdclickofdeath.
I have 6GB of memory and 3,2GB swap, while running mini-trisquel.
Can you please reply to the actual posts themselves? It's annoying to have to
sift through and find the post you're replying to, and even harder when working
through email, as am I and no doubt others too.
One note: I am using Trisquel 7 32-bit. Can anyone confirm whether or not
this is happening on a 64-bit machine?
You could give him a break and tell him to install unetbootin from the repos,
its a lot easier for a newbie :-P
I know you did a good job with freenetbootin but c'mon... unetbootin is not
that bad :-P
What OS are you using as server?
I'm not having this issue either, and I have addons and plugins installed...
I'm not experiencing issues either.
ok i did not know it was in trisquels repo's
so yeah you can just find unetbootin i add/remove applications
Are you guys all using 64-bit or 32-bit Trisquel?
If you type top in a terminal you'll see what causes this high CPU load.
For me this reads a lot like this bug: https://trisquel.info/en/issues/8183
Usually if something is in Debian's main repo it will be in Ubuntu's and
Mint's and Trisquel's repos as well.
If i am wrong please correct me :)
I have the same crash on my 32-bit computer, and no problem at all on my
64-bit computer...
What is the quickest way to get this problem fixed? It seems like a major
issue like this should be dealt with more quickly.
Also, why is it that as soon as a new package version is available the old
one is immediately removed from the repos? In a situation like this I'd like
to downgrade

Really? Hey, then problem solved. I didn't know about u-boot. Tanks for the
link legimet, looks like some more interesting reading.
So, did this go anywhere?
I have been looking for a way to install unetbootin for days, i really don't
care which version, i'd be using downloaded images anyway.
however I can't find it in the trisquel repo, and sourceforge appears to be
broken so I haven't managed to get it.
thanks! i'll try this when I get time for another session with it. Clear
instructions like that from the actual source of the software makes things
much easier. I can follow what the commands are doing but I wouldn't have
known them myself.
Of course to really make it easy may I suggest
I'm a bit unclear what you are requesting and in which case it didn't happen.

I thought that's what we were doing...
huh? you sound pretty advanced.

it got a lot further this time, but ended with bash: make: command not found
You know you can install multiple packages in one command, right? For
example:
apt-get install qt4-qmake libqt4-dev git
It seems so, I have a 32bit computer and I'm having these issues
i installed g++ and ran make etc and freenetbootin is running
it warned me extlinux not found, but i can presumably get it if I need EXT2
thank-you! i will keep this thread as an example for future attempts to

can i ask at this point,
I need it to run pbuilder as nonroot.
unetbootin isn't in the repos.
ok try now!
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install qt4-qmake sudo apt-get install
qt5-qmake sudo apt-get install libqt4-dev sudo apt-get install make
cmake sudo apt-get install git git clone

I have 64bit and I am getting the same crashes as others have reported.
Except I can't go to any websites thus far witout it crashing.
64-bit
i know its just this why if theres a missing package it will at least install
the others if not the one that failed
doesn’t libreboot do that..?
Sure, but some people might still prefer to guy from Gluglug anyway. In this
way you get to support Francis and his ongoing work. As an example, I
purchased his Libreboot installation service so as to support him financially
even though I already had Libreboot

making .deb packages is something i'd like to learn to do.
i wondered if g++ was just another missing package
does build-essential include g++?

of free software is that you can modify and rebuild it - would it be

any idea
oh sorry that was a mistake by me try it now
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install qt4-qmake qt5-qmake sudo
apt-get install libqt4-dev sudo apt-get install git git clone
https://notabug.org/tomlukeywood/freenetbootin.git cd freenetbootin

recloned it and ran the rest but i get this:

What kind of hardware is that? I.e. your output oflspci

Well, that's really impressive. If this much can be run at a decent speed,
then my life is complete, at last. Seriously, this is great!
* can't find the app that tracks processes so can't tell what is using cpu.
I do not know if Trisquel Mini has such a graphical application by default.
But you can install that of the regular edition: GNOME System Monitor. You
can install it from Add/remove applications (for instance).
both top and system monitor show the icecat process using 100% when i try to
visit this website.
abrowser is fine.
incidentally when i remove and reinstall icecat it has all my old bookmarks
and prefs, presumably it is getting them from abrowser, is it supposed to
share users in this way?
so only people on 32bit are having the problem it seems?
No problems on my 64-bit either.
64-bit.
I was requesting that instead of replying to posters replying to you by making
entirely new posts, you actually follow up and reply those posts. It is far
easier to follow the chain of conversation when the replies are actually
threaded, as opposed to having to find the post being referred to.
I experience the same issue. Never had any oom problems before. Disabled
reader view but it still segfaults. No downgrade possible as mentioned by
alucardx.
Compiz is not part of Trisquel 7's default install but is in the repository.
so is this the right place to reply even though i alreday replied to later
posts on this fork of the thread?
anyway when i tried the above it gives me E: Unable to locate package qmake

I have some hardware that had resolution issues when I moved from Trisquel 6
to Trisquel 7. If I remember right it was an ATI graphics card and in
Trisquel 7 the driver module was blacklisted. I removed it from the blacklist
and it worked much better.
What kind of hardware is that? I.e. your output of lspci

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y400 and have recently switched to solely Trisquel,
which consequently disabled my Intel Centrino N 2230 because it runs on
proprietary firmware. I was curious if all of the Atheros mini pci-e wifi
cards would be compatible.
As far as I know all the Atheros wifi cards series AR9xxx and AR5xxx work
just fine. I have a couple (I bought one more and keep it ready for the
future..) of AR928X and they work splendidly! Cost 15 dollars for 2 wifi
cards. You can find them even for 5 bucks.
cheers!
I'd personally rather buy one from Gluglug anyway, for the hardware
improvements, extra stuff, and Intel proprietary CPU stuff removed from ROM, as
well as Libreboot.
Why do you keep talking about Libreboot? Such embedded devices usually use a
bootloader such as Das U-Boot: http://www.denx.de/wiki/U-Boot
I'm running a fairly fresh install (from a few days ago) of Trisquel 7
(32bit), on an Acer Aspire One. I have 1GB memory, which was always enough on
Trisquel 6, and I'm using a swap partition.
Just updated to ABrowser 39, which crashed repeatedly. I had this page open
in a tab:
Agreed. Please post this to h-node.
when you remove icecat, it might not remove the profile folder in your home
user directory.
Glad to hear you're scrolling again!
To fix the resolution issue it might be worth trying a newer kernel from e.g.

use one of the other options. the stacks option, or the jxself repo

I would like to know about this script too. I have installed it and made a
.desktop file to autostart it in trisquel 7, but I have run into a problem i
had to work around.
namely this bug.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz-fusion-plugins-extra/+bug/819302
This happens to me with trisquel 7. It doesn't accept any username and
password. Just remove the 01_PASSWORD file.
have you run sudo apt-get update?
when removing icecat i selected complete removal and assumed that removed the
profile too, but I should check. I removed it manually but it doesn't seem
to be involved in the cpu use issue.
That's too bad, but at least the data can remain more reliably on a hdd
(thanks again for the link BCG).
Yeah I know about yacy. I was thinking about searx instead. Butt it seems
that should work since it's an option on yunohost (thanks Magic Banana).
On the way, I learned about freedom
I hear Icecat is better anyway.. ;)
You have actually been doing this in your conversation with tomlukeywood and
gnuser below. As of my whining, you had made a few posts addressing people
across the board, which did actually make it hard to follow.

Seconded. Just use Abrowser if you want less hassle.
PS. To completely remove a package (binaries and config files) type apt-get
purge package.
Well said. Support freedom.
What I meant by 'Intel proprietary CPU stuff'- I didn't mean BIOS but Intel AME
and AMT. I have no clue what they are, but Gluglug have gotten rid of them too,
as well as replacing the BIOS.
Hi,
I was thinking about Trisquel and how it gets recognized in the (tech)
public sphere. While digging trough the wiki I stumbled upon the
article on Proposed policies, procedures, solutions where it states:

i tried again. I have been looking in synaptic and unetbootin doesn't show.
maybe i am searching wrong? i just tried add/remove applications again and
unetbootin is there. why are the 2 methods different? aren't they both
searching the same repo?
now i have a gui glitch preventing me from
