The FCC doesn't regulate newspapers, direct mail firms, or billboard
companies. They _do_ regulate radio
As part of a two-year extension of his Networks of Kabletown contract,
Seacrest adds a special correspondent title on the Today show in
addition to anchoring E! News, being part of the London Olympics team and
producing for the networks--and NOT replacing Lauer as Today host:

Why I detest Seacrest? He's put so many legends out of work, and honestly,
ruined radio as we knew it. As a broadcaster, I resent that one person can
come in and displace Rick Dees (Clear Channel fired him for Seacrest), Casey
Kasem (Clear Channel shoved Kasey off AT40 years ago for Seacrest),

Seacrest has also dabbled in the reality television, and is credited as an
executive producer on at least one of the Kardashian programs. For a fair
segment of the population, that would be sufficient reason to loathe the man.

Seacrest didn't fire those people. He's a guy who is getting young ears
where Dees and Kasem weren't. Clark hired him to do the job he could no
longer do. You don't have to like him, but he is a rare success in a dying
industry.
And radio doesn't have a farm system. It doesn't need one. It needs
Oh, as a broadcaster, I totally disagree, and respectfully so. Dees and
Kasem were institutions. AT40 airs typically in a daypart that isn't highly
rated and isn't something sales relies heavily on at the local level. When
I was offered Seacrest, I dumped that show real fast. No one missed it.
I agree with virtually everything Terry stated, except the part about
radio serving a purpose. I've been cruising around in my free Chevy
Volt all weekend which came with XM. The car I bought used last year
came with XM but the subscription lapsed and it is an expense I can't
justify. But having
Where I am, Southern Missouri, radio serves a VERY valuable purpose. Joplin
comes to mind. Last May when Joplin was literally blown off the map, local
radio there stepped up, they were on the air for nearly 3 weeks straight
with information, news, and more importantly a sense of service. They
Go can't saturate as many as KZLA used to. There are community college
stations with more coverage.
I agree wholeheartedly that the essence of great radio is at the local
level. I'm glad you have that in Joplin. We don't in LA, nor did we
when I lived in San Diego.
